Addons / Extensions / Helper Apps

For WinPMail
Martin Ireland's Pegasus Mail Helper Applications Page has another fine collection of utilities that expand PMail's power, and perform other mail–related tasks. BEARHTML is the HTML renderer for WinPMail 4.3+, and is updated separately from PMail and more often. Originally by David Baldwin. Program messages can be in choice of English, French, Italian, German, or Hungarian. Help can be in choice of English, French, Italian, or German. Pegasus info: The v4.31 package has BEARHTML 2.5.5, and the v4.41 package has BEARHTML 2.7.6 — both should be upgraded to the latest available version. Also available: VIRSCAN, for WinPMail 3.x (16– or 32–bit) or 4.x, launches antivirus checking and reporting, in any of five languages, on messages and attachments (works with user's choice of AV program). VIRPROT is similar to VIRSCAN, but works with the Mercury Mail Transport System (network mail server). MAILMERGE is an expanded replacement, with improved attachment handling, for the Mlmrg32 extension that is standard in 32–bit WinPMail 3.x and in 4.x up to 4.31 (v4.41 has a new, integrated tool). NewsMail converts UseNet news postings to mail digests or separate messages, readable in PMail for any OS. NewsPost converts PMail messages into NNTP Newsgroup postings. RSSMail converts RSS summary data into a mail message, readable in PMail for any OS. PM2MSM extracts and saves the contents of a folder on a MAPI mail server (MS Exchange/Outlook or other). Saved contents are text message files, readable in PMail for any OS.
Spamhalter, by Lukas Gebauer, is a Baysian spam filter. It is part of the WinPMail 4.41 package, but is updated separately from WinPMail and more often. A new version is available now at the Community for Pegasus Mail and The Mercury Mail Transport System Add-Ons page.
Gerard R. Thomas has PMail extensions and other utilities. The Application Launcher (runexe) sets up toolbar buttons that start any executable files that you specify. Requires Win32, but works with 16– or 32–bit WinPMail, and can call any program that runs under Win32. QDPGP integrates PGP encryption, and QDGPG integrates GnuPG encryption into WinPMail. Other utils process PostScript files, add custom headers to outgoing WinPMail messages, and more.
Lexacorp Ltd. has another nice bunch of addons for PMail. A few of them: MsgCount reports the number of folders and messages in mailbox, the total size of all messages and total size of the mailbox directory. LstExpnd creates a plain text list of the addresses in a mailing list, and their address book entries. AttchWrn, an administrator's tool, prevents users from opening executables. It can also strip names from a list containing addresses, and sort the list. MailStrip has options to strip selected parts of a text file consisting of multiple saved messages. Get these and more, plus other programs that perform a variety of tasks for Windows and DOS: File uploading, IP address display, logging, and more.
Plato, The Quote Manager, by Leon Salters, organizes lists of quotations, for insertion into messages. It edits the lists (using any editor you specify), feeds them to PMail's rescom.exe compiler, and sorts them into folders. Multiple display options, exports to text file & more. Requires 32–bit Windows and WinPMail. Download (541K).
Thalia , from BitBuilt Software, is another quotation formatting tool. It edits quotations with its own internal editor, feeds them to PMail's rescom.exe compiler, and sorts them into folders. Thalia can "steal" lines from the Windows clipboard, and has a cataloging function. Works with 16– or 32–bit WinPMail. Requires Win32 and the Application Launcher PMail extension (included, but get a newer version from its author's site). Download v1.37 (330K).
PGP für Pegasus Mail / PGP for Pegasus Mail, by Michael in der Wiesche, is an extension that integrates PGP encryption (v6.5.x – v9.x) into PMail for Windows. Versions auf Deutsch / in English.
Oscar Vermolen's Toolbar buttons & Utilities for Pegasus Mail has more goodies. A few of them: RFC822 Converter converts a message with content–type Message/RFC822 for easy reading in PMail. MailReset removes message headers that have been added by PMail, POPFile, K9 and SpamWall. Use it to "clean" spam messages, so as to be able to use them to compare, test or train several anti–spam apps. charset changes a message's MIME character set from ISO–8859–1 to Windows–1252. EditMessage sends a message to any text editor. Message Notify alerts the user when a message arrives.
AntiSpam 3.0, from Toast Freeware, is a plug–in that probes selected messages, and extracts email addresses or domains. The extracts are then inserted into complaints that get sent to spam.abuse.net. Requires 32–bit Windows and PMail 3.12c or later. Download (544K). Get more info, in English and German, at the AntiSpam page. Source code is available at the File Releases page at SourceForge.
Helper Applications for Pegasus Mail for Windows, from The Navas Group, make PMail the default mailer for Netscape, hang up the phone, integrate PGP encryption into PMail, and much more.
WSendTo redirects the HTML mailto from a browser to WinPMail 3.x, making it your default emailer. Requires Win32, but works with 16– or 32–bit WinPMail. Note: If you have WinPMail 4.x, you don't need this — every 4.x package contains its own version. Download (177K) from: US Switzerland Australia

For DOS PMail
SMTPOP, by Alfredo Cole, is a POP3/SMTP (receive/send) gateway for DOSPMail 3.2+, connecting a standalone PC to the Internet. Replaces the older PMPOP and SMTPOP 1.1. Download v1.2 (155K).
PMSMTP, by Fred Macall, is an SMTP (mail send) agent that provides DOSPMail with the AUTH LOGIN authentication that many ISP servers now require. (Note that you will still need a POP3 agent to receive mail). Supports DHCP and port 587 connection. Runs on any DOS machine, from an 8088 with DOS3.3, on up. Thorough documentation provided. Download v0.14b (50K).
Pegasus Mail and Mercury DOS Utilities (and some Windows utils too), by James Haley, process addressbook and distribution list information, and more. Also available are docs and usage examples.

For All PMails
The Large US English dictionary is an optional replacement for the smaller UK and US dictionaries in PMail packages for DOS and Windows. For WinPMail, place it in the program directory, and it will be available in the spellchecker's dictionary list box with the small ones (deletion of the small US dictionary is recommended to avoid confusion, but is not required). For DOSPMail, rename it PDICT3.PMD, to replace the default small UK dictionary with that filename. Download (1MB) from: US Switzerland Australia
unix2pm, by James A. Perreault, is a DOS program that converts Unix mail folders to PMail folders or to separate message (incoming mail) files. Package includes executable and C source code. Download (20K) from: US Switzerland Australia
EConv, from A.N.D. Technologies, consists of two DOS utilities that convert mail folders, address books and other data from Eudora to Pegasus formats, and from Pegasus to Eudora formats. Download (35K).
Pegasus Mail Addon Programs for DOS and Windows, from Dragon Computer Consultancy, convert email data files to/from PMail, Eudora, Netscape, etc.; turn PMail into a file server; and more.
Just the FAQs, by Michael Bernardi is an index to a high quality collection of Internet manuals and links lists. Especially useful is the Guide to Pegasus Mail Addons List, a big catalog of diverse supplements to the DOS, Windows and Macintosh versions of PMail, with descriptions and source locations. Go to its Web page, or get it in plain text. Note: Use only this link for the current plain text version – the link in the Web page is old (2003).
